A voice through the door - Rumi

Sometimes you hear a voice through
the door calling you, as fish out of
water hear the waves, or a hunting
falcon hears the drum's come back.

This turning toward what you deeply
love saves you. Children fill their

shirts with rocks and carry them
around. We're not children anymore.

Read the book of your life which has
been given you. A voice comes to

your soul saying, Lift your foot;
cross over; move into emptiness

of question and answer and question.

In Urdu

kabhi kabhi darwaazay say tumay

pukartee ek awaaz aatee hai,

jaisay machhli lehron ko suntee hai,

ya jaisay ek shikaree baaj dholak

kee ghar aanay kee awaaz sunta hai

udhar jaana jahan tumaree mohabbat hai

tum ko hamesha bacha dettee hai,

bachay kameez kee jholeeon main pathar bhar kar

idhar udhar goohmtay rehtay hain,

hum ab ek bachay nahin hain.

parho us zindgee kee kitab ko

jo tumay daiyee gayee hai,

ek awaaz tumaree ruh say aakar kehtee hai:

kadam uthao, chhalaang lagao,

aur udhar jaao jahan

koee bhi sawaal ya jawaab nahin hai.
